Author and theater maker Saara Turunen will visit the main library

7.4.2025 | Author and theater maker Saara Turunen (b. 1981) will visit the Kotka main library stage on Thursday, April 10, at 17.30.
The author will be interviewed by Päivi Taussi.

Saara Turunen’s work as an author is characterized by the exploration of themes such as gender, norms, and art. She is known for her novels Rakkaudenhirviö (The Monster of Love, Tammi, 2015), Sivuhenkilö (The Supporting Character, Tammi, 2018), Järjettömiä asioita (Absurd Things, Tammi, 2021), and Hyeenan päivät (The Hyena’s Days, Tammi, 2024). Turunen is also recognized for her provocative plays.

Her latest novel Hyeenan päivät is an intense and straightforward story about infertility and the contradictions of reproduction. The story portrays the unpredictability of life, body-related shame, and the inevitability of the passage of time.

Turunen’s works have been translated into several languages and performed around the world. Her debut novel Rakkaudenhirviö won the Helsingin Sanomat Literary Prize in 2015. Turunen also received the Lea Award for playwriting in 2019 for her play Medusan huone (Medusa’s Room).
