Music class application launches in January

18.12.2024 | In Kotka, music-focused education is provided in Käpylä school (grades 3-6) and Karhula school (grades 7-9), as well as in Kotkansaari school, Haukkavuori (grades 3-5) and Keskuskoulu (grades 6-9).

Music classes are classes to which students are selected on the basis of musical aptitude tests, as a rule for the whole period of basic education. Music classes have broader objectives in music education than is generally the case in primary education. Music classes provide the skills and stimulation for a wide range of musical activities. The focus is on making music together, singing, playing instruments and various projects.

You can apply for a music class in the spring of 2nd grade and start studying in the music class at the beginning of 3rd grade. Any student who is interested in making music together through playing and singing can apply for a music class. If there is room in the groups, classes will be filled by a supplementary application when students move on to secondary school. The application deadline is in early spring and will be announced through the schools.

Information sessions will be organised for parents of students interested in music classes:

  • at the Haukkavuoren School on Wednesday 15.1. at 18:00 and
  • Thursday 16.1 at 18:00 at the Käpylä school on Wednesday 15.1.

Detailed application instructions and links to application forms will be available on the schools’ peda.net pages at the start of the spring semester in January.
